Bend, Oregon is located on the eastern edge of the
Cascade Range along the Deschutes River. Here the Ponderosa Pine Forest transitions into the high desert, characterized by arid land, junipers, sagebrush and bitter-brush. Originally a crossing point
on the river, settlement began in the early 1900s.
DAY - 1 Salem to Bend Oregon.
9:00am Depart from Salem on our way OR-22 E
/ Santiam Hwy SE for 80 miles and
then US-20 E for 45 miles to Bend, OR.
Many stops en route.
12:15pm We will stop in Sisters where you will
have time to do some shopping and have
lunch on your own.
3:00pm Depart for Bend.
3:45pm Arrive at our Hotel: The Riverhouse on the Deschutes.
6:00pm Welcome dinner will be serve at our hotel.

Deep Water in a Sleeping Volcano
Crater Lake inspires awe. Native Americans witnessed it form 7,700 years ago, when a violent eruption triggered the collapse of a
towering volcano. Scientists marvel at its purity: fed by rain and snow, it’s the deepest lake in the USA and perhaps the most pristine on earth. Artists, photographers, and sightseers stand in
wonder at its blue water and stunning setting. On this tour you will be amazed by the scenery.
DAY - 2 En route for Crater Lake.
We will take US-97 South, and OR-138 W
to Crater Lake (9miles). 1hr 35min/
9:00am Depart for Crater Lake. Stops en Route.
We will circle the rim of the lake.
1:00pm Lunch included at the Lodge. Time to
walk around and relax at the lodge.
4:00pm Return to our hotel. Evening to relax and
enjoy the amenities at your hotel.
B & L Included
The Painted Hills are one of the three units that comprise the John Day Fossil Beds. Take time to also
visit the Clarno Unit, with Mars-like pillars formed by waterfalls and volcanic sludge and the Sheep Rock Unit, where fossils of plants and animals like saber-toothed cats are on display at the
Thomas Condon Paleontology Center. Scientists study 50 million years of plant and animal evolution and a collection of 40,000 fossils here, and you can learn how early cousins of elephants and rhinos
roamed the earth you’re standing on. To get there, take the Journey Through Time Scenic Byway through the ghost town of Shaniko, then on to the town of Fossil (named after the mammoth bone found
there), where you can dig for your own fossilized souvenir. Plan to stop at the Kam Wah Chung and Co. Museum, a perfectly preserved drugstore from a century ago.
DAY - 3 The Painted hills
9:00am Depart from Hotel, en route for the Painted
11:30am Arrive at our destination. Time to enjoy
relax and have a picnic.
4:00pm Return to our hotel. Evening and dinner on
